"Fortunate Sons" is a song written by CCR in 1968 and was a protest song to the government and more specifically the war in Vietnam. This is one of many songs like it, there were many other songs that protest the war at the time. I chose this song for two reasons. First, it is a recognizable song that I am sure many people have heard. Second, I like the idea behind the lyrics. It is talking about the average people who are being sent out to war, not the rich and prosperous. It is easy to send people to war if you are not being directly effected, and that is the message in the song. The message is similar in the poem. Allen Ginsberg is a famous poet and is especially famous for his beliefs. He was a strong protester of the war, and that it evident in this poem. He makes direct references to the A-Bomb, and war in Vietnam, and calls it war being fought by our government, not the people of America. That is the same thing that "Fortunate Son" is trying to portray. People in the government are the only ones who want to go to war, but they aren't the ones fighting. The ones fighting are the average Americans, not the ones born with a silver spoon in hand.
